Let me introduce myself. My name is David Bakker and I am the owner of City Commercial Cleaners.
I started commercial cleaning in 1995 in Brisbane Australia and have been commercial cleaning ever since. I had been a Government employee for five and a half years prior to starting my own business, but a complete lack of job satisfaction and a desire to work for myself saw me quit my job as a Police Officer and buy into a medium sized cleaning business.
My previous business was called Queensland Commercial Cleaners and along with my 2 partners and over 60 staff, we cleaned businesses from the Gold Coast to Cairns. We cleaned all Event Cinemas in Queensland, we cleaned large shopping centres including Broadway on the Mall, a prestigious shopping centre in the Queen Street Mall in the centre of Brisbane, we cleaned large Private Schools including St Pauls and with over 1600 students and Lourdes Hill with over 900 students, we cleaned numerous offices, businesses, hotels, child care centres, medical centres and offices.
We had over 60 staff, 6 cars, 80 vacuums, 4 carpet cleaning machines, 3 auto scrubbing machines and 2 trailers when I sold to my cleaning business to my partners in 2007.
It is now a national commercial cleaning business with a new name to reflect the nationwide capacity.
I took a year off to travel in 2007 and then the GFC bought me home in 2008, at which time I started a business that would become City Commercial Cleaners. I originally called it Newtown Cleaning but changed the name when I realised most people in Newtown are not really the type of people you would want cleaning anything.
